REQUIREMENTS TO RENT A CAR AT BUDGET CAR RENTAL MEXICO

 

All persons, without exception, must meet the following rental requirements:

Age  

• The minimum age to rent a car is 18 years old.  
• If the driver is between 18 and 21 years old, he/she can rent a car for an additional fee called "Young Driver Fee" of $16.10 USD per day. This amount is subject to airport charges and VAT. If required, this charge is added and collected directly at the office. 
• The additional driver charge is for each driver the principal renter wishes to add to the rental. 

 

Identification  

Identification must be presented in original, in physical form, be current, legible, issued by the competent authorities. 

For Mexican citizens: 

All renters must present an official identification, passport or voting credential of the United Mexican States in force at the time of rental. 

For foreigners: 

All our foreign customers require a valid passport for identification at the time of car rental.

 

Driver's License  

For Mexican citizens:  

• All drivers, principal or additional, must present driver's license in original, in physical form be current, legible, be issued by the competent authorities.   
• The license presented must be issued by the state/province where you currently reside.  

For foreigners:  

• All drivers, principal or additional, must present driver's license in original, in physical form be current, legible, issued by competent authorities.   
• If the driver's license is in Arabic, Greek, Russian or Chinese, the holder must present an international driver's license along with the national license.
• Additional drivers must meet the same minimum age and driver's license requirements as the primary renter. 

 

Credit or debit card  

Physical or digital evidence of belonging to the contracting party account holder.

 

Pre-charge or security deposit  

For all rentals invariably of the selected payment option, it is necessary to leave a precharge or security deposit.  

In case of not complying with any of the above mentioned requirements it will not be possible to provide the rental service and in case of prepayment it will not be refundable.

Pre-paying your car rental gives you great benefits and savings, these are our requirements:  

• You can choose to prepay your rental on our website budget.com.mx or through our national reservation center (800) 002-8343
• The prepayment is not transferable, that is, the person whose name appears on the reservation must come to the rental office to identify himself/herself personally in order to rent the vehicle. 
• In the specific case that the client does not meet the rental requirements, the prepayment will not be refundable. 

 

No show / cancellation policies for prepayments: 

• Cancellations with 72 hours or more - Generates a cancellation fee of 20% of the prepaid amount.
  In case of change, per rental days and/or unit, once the contract is generated, it generates a cancellation charge of 20% of the prepaid amount. 
  Cancellations with less than 24 hours - No Refund.
  In case of no-show at the time of rental / No Show - No Refund.
  In case of default by Budget Mexico, 100% refund will be applied.

The average reimbursement time is 10 to 15 business days from the moment the corresponding area received the correct account information. The update in the client's account statement will depend on the times established by the receiving bank.

Important Note:

When paying with a credit card not issued in Mexico, your bank converts the total amount paid in Mexican pesos to your home currency. and/or may be subject to constant fluctuations (resulting in an actual charge higher or lower than the estimated cost of the rental).

Budget Mexico has no control over the currency conversions used and/or any foreign transaction surcharge fees imposed by your credit and/or debit card company.

 

• In the case of charges generated by your bank for the escrow deposit with credit or debit card, no refund applies, as these are bank commissions charged or exchange difference charges. 
• Vehicles are our main asset, that is why we need to protect them with security amounts. 
• All our rentals include in the total price the CDW coverage without exception. 
• To open a rental contract it is necessary to make a precharge / security deposit in credit or debit card according to the amounts in USD indicated in the following table:

• All vehicles are rented with a full tank of gas.  
• You must return the vehicle with a full tank of gas to avoid additional charges, check with our rental office at the time of rental for the price of gas. 
• Fuel service is subject to taxes and fees.  
• The customer can choose to prepay the gas tank, this way he/she does not need to return the car with a full tank, the value of the prepaid gas depends on each vehicle and its tank capacity. The details of this service can be consulted directly at our counter at the time of receiving your rental vehicle. 

   

• It is called a Drop Off charge when the customer decides to return the car in a different office than the one where he/she picked up the vehicle.  
• For reservations, this charge is already included in the total amount due, as long as the customer chooses to return the vehicle at another location. 
• If the customer chooses to return the vehicle at a different office the one way charge is as follows: $.90 USD per kilometer plus VAT, this distance is measured from the office where the car was delivered to the office where it was returned. 
• The customer can only return the car at Budget Mexico offices, it is not allowed to leave the car at any other point, parking lot or similar.

• Cross-border transits to the United States of America are allowed, as long as the corresponding coverage is purchased. 
• This requires the purchase of a special protection with an approximate cost of $12 USD + VAT and taxes. 
• Cross-border transit to the United States of America is not available in some rental offices. 
• Notification of location is required for prior authorization. 
• The vehicle must be rented and returned at a Budget Mexico office, it is not allowed to leave the car at any Budget office outside the Mexican national territory. 
• Cross-border transits to Central and South America are not allowed.  
• Cars may not be taken on any air or sea transportation. 
• In case of daily rental, if you need to drop off the car at a Budget Mexico office different from where the rental contract was generated, Drop off rates will be considered. 

• The airport fee applies to all offices located within airports. This amount is marked as airport fee in the quotation detail.  
• The location usage fee applies to all offices located outside of airports, for details on the cost of this fee, please go directly to our website budget.com.mx or call our national reservation center (800) 002-8343. This amount is marked as a rental fee in the quote detail. 
• Vehicle licensing fee: $1.20 USD per day of rental. 
• Federal Value Added Tax (VAT): 16%. 
• In border cities VAT is 8% in accordance with Mexican law.  

 

Collision Damage Waiver PLUS (Collision Damage Waiver, CDW PLUS)

• Protection that covers up to 90% of the value of the automobile, in case of theft or total loss of the unit; in these cases, the client is responsible for damages up to 10% of the commercial value of the vehicle.  
• Protection that covers the client up to $12,905 USD pesos per event, for medical expenses of the driver and occupants of the automobile in case of accidents. 
• Coverage protection up to $6,452 USD pesos for death of the driver in an automobile accident.
• Protection covering the client for damages caused to the property of third parties due to an accident caused by our client with a maximum civil liability extension of $258,064 USD. 

Important: 

• If the value of the damage is less than the deductible, the customer will pay for the repair of the vehicle.  
• Theft, vandalism or damage to parts and accessories, as well as wear and tear of tires, rims, shock absorbers, battery theft, computer theft, fines, license plates, keys, or car negligence are not covered. 
• Any coverage outside the company, acquired by the client, will be only for his protection, since it does not protect the assets of the company, and therefore will not be excluded for mandatory coverage, to cover the amount of the deductible acquired.

• Protection that covers up to 95% of the value of the car, in case of theft or total loss of the unit; in these cases, the client is responsible for damages up to 5% of the commercial value of the vehicle.  
• This protection covers medical services: Medical expenses due to accident or sudden illness, telephone medical consultation, online medical consultation and medical referrals. 
• This protection covers travel services: Trip interruption. 
• Protection that covers the client up to $12,905 USD pesos per event, for medical expenses of the driver and occupants of the automobile in case of accidents. 
• Coverage protection up to $6,452 USD pesos for death of the driver in an automobile accident.
• Protection covering the client for damages caused to the property of third parties due to an accident caused by our client with a maximum civil liability extension of $258,064 USD. 

• If the value of the damage is less than the deductible, the customer will pay for the repair of the vehicle.

• If the customer does not meet the rental requirements, Budget Mexico reserves the right to rent the car.  
• All rental requirements must be met in order for a customer to be subject to generate a car rental contract with Budget Mexico. 

• Pickup and Delivery   
• Service available at most of our locations. Consult our Budget Mexico offices.
• Advance reservations are required.   
• Notification to location for pre-authorization is required.   
• If applicable, delivery and pick-up are free of charge within a radius of approximately one kilometer from the rental location.    

• The use of infant seats or child seats is an essential safety feature that can prevent injuries and even serious accidents when traveling in a car with small children.   

• Our child seat is ideal for 4-7 years (15-30 kg) and our infant seat is ideal for up to 4 years (0-15 kg).   

• Not all of our locations offer child seats.   

• Infant seats are subject to availability so we recommend that you always make a reservation.   

• The cost is $9.35 USD + taxes and fees per day.    

• If child safety seats/booster seats are lost, stolen or damaged, a recovery fee of $323 USD applies.    

• A prepaid fuel tank saves you the time and hassle of filling up before returning your rental car.   

• The cost of the prepaid tank will vary depending on the type of car selected.  

• This is a counter product, therefore, it is not reservable, consult with our counter advisors at the time of your rental to contract the service.   

• Please be sure to take all your personal and important items with you before returning the rental car.    

• If you forgot or lost any of your belongings in our facilities or in the rental car, Budget Mexico is not responsible.    

• We are not responsible for the loss, theft or damage to any property in the car for transfers to our offices or airports, in any service vehicle, such as a van or shuttle bus, on our premises, or that we receive or drive.   

• You are responsible for keeping your belongings in plain view at all times.   

• All our vehicles are smoke-free.   

• Smoking inside the vehicle is strictly prohibited.   

• Tobacco smoke emits a pungent odor that becomes a residue on the fabrics, fibers and surfaces of the car, emitting a strong odor that most car renters find unpleasant and/or have allergies to.    

• We are committed to providing our customers with 100% smoke-free vehicles, which is why all vehicles undergo an inspection upon return.   

• In most cases, the person in charge of receiving the vehicles will inspect them at that time in the return area.   

• If the agent finds evidence, which shows that the interior of the vehicle is smoked and/or smells of smoke, photos will be taken and the customer will be informed.   

• A cleaning fee of $259 USD will be applied in case of smoking in the vehicle during the rental period.   

•  The client must inform that in the rental vehicle will carry a pet, Budget will be responsible for the thorough cleaning of the vehicle before the next rental, this as a courtesy to people who are allergic to animal fur.   

•  The cleaning charge for a car that transported pets is $65 USD plus VAT.   

•  In case of not reporting the transportation of pets and related hair or stains are detected, the charge will be applied.
